Forum Rules and Guidelines

Like any online forum, the Shawnigan Lake Online Community Forum has some rules and guidelines.

The Short Version

Use your common sense, be respectful of others, and avoid posting advertisements, copyrighted material, or inflammatory content.

The Long Version

Please read these carefully and if you have any questions please fell free to contact a member of the SLBA Web Site Committee at web@slba.ca.

1. Do not post messages or send PMs that are unlawful, harassing, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, bullying or racially offensive. This rule encompasses both members of the forum and members of the public.
2. Do not insult members for their opinions. While differing opinions are welcome and encouraged, please respect each other at all times.
3. No defamatory comments. A defamatory comment is one that is capable of damaging the reputation of a person or organisation.
4. Please do not post copyrighted material. This includes ALL photos and articles. If you wish to share an article or photo, please provide a link.
5. For links to pictures we believe to be private ie not in newspaper, magazine or TV sites: no pictures with babies or children who appear to be pre-teenage and could be identified - no photos which show anyone in such a way they could be embarrassed or ashamed - and no screencaptures of password protected sites like Facebook.
6. Please use the "report this post" feature to alert mods to posts which break any of the first four rules. This feature is not to be used to alert mods to posts which you disagree with, don't like, find irritating, etc. It is only to be used in response to harrassment, defamation, or copyright infringement. You may also use the "report to admin" feature to alert admins to any abusive PMs.
7. Please respect the Shawnigan Lake Online Forum and its staff. If you disagree with a decision made by a staff member, contact an Admin and please keep complaints limited to private messages (PMs).
8. Please do not quote the post directly above yours. Quotes should only be used to clarify your post.
9. Don't quote more then a few lines of an article. Members may read the entire article at its original source, if they wish.
10. Keep your posts on-topic. Posts which are not relevant may be removed. Off-topic posts may be posted on the Chat section of the forum.
11. No swearing. People of all ages read and contribute to the Internet Forum.
12. Be considerate of front-page space. Don't take up too much of it by either bumping lots of inactive threads or creating many similar ones. Where possible, condense. A thread is considered inactive after 30 days with no new posts. Exceptions to this rule include threads in child boards. In certain situations it makes more sense to add to an old thread, rather then creating a new one (eg, when there is new media speculation on a recent subject, etc). Please use common sense when choosing between bumping an old thread or starting a new one.
13. No spamming. This includes advertising on the forum or through private message (PM), double posting, baiting and flaming.
14. Please post in English. Posts in other languages will be deleted. Please do not use "text talk" as this can be difficult to read.
15. No advertising, or promotion of products or services; links to your home page may be added to your profile.
16. No inappropriate usernames (vulgar, offensive, etc).
17. No defamatory or violent Signatures or Avatars Signatures or Avatars designed to defame the subject matter are not allowed.

The Shawnigan Lake Business Association reserves the right to change or alter these rules at any time.
